Sunday Stash #52 - A Year of Stashing + Announcement

Today marks my 52nd Sunday Stash post. Lovelies, do you realise that is a year's worth of fabric purchases? It's only fitting then that this is the day I'm hosting, and the day I have a special announcement to share with you (you'd think I planned this or something, ::wink::wink::)!

Fiona from Finding Fifth has so very generously offered to pass the reigns of Sunday Stash to me! Can you even believe it? Um, hello, honoured does not even begin to describe! So starting in January, this will be the new home of Sunday Stash! In the coming weeks I will let you know about some of the exciting changes I have in store, hosting opportunities, and of course, more fabric!

Now, I'd like to take you down memory lane through some of my favourite Sunday Stash posts. If you ain't got time for that, scroll to the bottom to find out the winner of the Thanksgiving Vintage Modern giveaway!

I began my Sunday Stash journey on September 22nd, 2012, way back as a wee blogger (it was only my 8th post). I remember being terrified because it was also my first link up. What if I did something wrong? What if my fabrics weren't the right kind? What if no one liked me? What if, what if, what if. Just hit publish already!

The first time Rupaul made an appearance.

Have you ever been forced to buy fabric you didn't like? I came around in the end, but this was a big step for me.

Seeing all of these teal fabrics hanging out together still makes me happy. The Carpenter's Wheel Star I made with them was a scrappy delight!

One of my all time favourite stash posts! Quilt Jane helped me source a fat quarter bundle of the Nancy Drew Get a Clue line, as I am an avid fan and reader of the Carolyn Keene classics. I've used it quite sparingly since then, as it will someday be a mysterious quilt just for me!

Sparkle Tales at the Intrepid Thread
While technically not a Sunday Stash post (it was mid-week, I literally couldn't wait!), this is the account of me meeting Julie from Intrepid Thread for the first time, spending five hours in her shop, and walking away with a crazy amount of fabric, not even done justice by the photo below.

And the tale of the Magic Suitcase begins! Wow, this changed my fabric stash forever, and is still fuelling my creativity today. So many fabrics I wouldn't have purchased for myself, but now are some of my faves!

Awe, isn't that cute? A 10,000 views giveaway? I remember being so elated at that milestone, and wondering how so many of you had viewed my littler corner of the blogosphere after only seven months. Oh, to be young again!

Hahaha, this story still makes me laugh. The one where Grandma Sparkles had tea with the divine Ms. Hula Hoop herself.

You don't go to a quilt fair without making some purchases!

The Notting Hill stash keeps growing, and David Butler refuses to be quiet.

During my first trip to Tokyo, Alyce from Blossom Heart Quilts and I traipsed all over town scouring the streets for fabrics. We bought them all.

When the Magic Suitcase comes to visit you for the first time you think, "Wow, is this really happening?" When it comes to visit you for a second time, you don't even worry about that, and just dive right into the goodies! "My goodies, my goodies, my, my, my…!" (LR!)

The one where I explain my Comma obsession.

From 10,000 to 100,000, every celebration needs fabric! A haunting story of isolation in Japan.

And that brings us to today! Last year when everyone else was snatching up Architextures to use immediately, I patiently ordered some and sent it to Grandma Sparkles so she could stash it in the Magic Suitcase V2.0. Now that I have it, I can really see what all the fuss was about! The ledger prints alone make me want to just have a whole quilt made entirely from them. This really plays to the right side of my brain, while caressing the left like a French tickler! There's more Architextures at the bottom of the suitcase, but I'll wait and show them off for a future Magic Suitcase V2.0 post (if we ever get back there!)

So that's my year of Sunday Stashes! These are only sixteen of my faves, but feel free to check out the sidebar for the full journey! I hope you've enjoyed this brief walk down fabric lane with me, and I hope even more that you'll join me on further fabric adventures in 2014 at the new home of Sunday Stash. Stay tuned for more fabulous details, and link up your own stash additions below!

And that winner?

It's Flo at Butterfly Quilting! I'll be in touch!

  1. That was a nice stroll. I started following your blog after your visit to Julie. A little jealous of that Architextures stash, because I don't remember seeing the ledger print! I have Botanics on my mind at the moment, though. SYS!

  2. That was super fun! I'm not buying fabric much these days (I've run out of room to store it) but I'm currently loving Botanics and the True Colors lines. Maybe if I just bought a second cabinet it'd be okay? ;)

  8. Does fabric your daughter put on the counter at Craft Depot yesterday and told the lady with confidence "4 meters please" count? It wasn't till I got back to the car and did the maths that I realised my backing fabric was $18/m x2m less 20% + half metre of cute Xmas fabric at $16/m less 20% did not add up to the $160 bill I just paid... her fabric may or may not have been on sale... I'm guessing it was around $28/m...
